Privacy Policy
Who we are
Casa Cabana is operated by Visser Solutions Inc., a corporation registered in Alberta, Canada. For privacy questions or requests, write to ron@vissersolutions.com. Our postal address for legal notices is listed on our contact page.
What we collect
Everything below is information you or the people you invite give us in the course of running a shared property. We do not buy data, and we do not collect anything about you from anywhere else.
- Account details. Your name and email address. We never handle a password. You sign in through Google, so your credential is never sent to us and we have nothing to store, leak or lose.
- Property information. The property description, address, coordinates and photographs you enter.
- Bookings. Who is staying, when, and who else is coming with them.
- Financial records. Expenses, receipts, contributions, budgets, settlements and the discussion attached to them.
- Documents. Insurance policies, deeds, warranties and anything else you store in the Binder.
- Contents inventory. Room photographs, item descriptions and replacement values.
- Maintenance records. Work orders, projects, visit logs and checklists.
Household members, including children
Casa Cabana lets an owner add household members, which commonly includes their children, so the group can see who is actually staying. We collect only the name you enter. We do not collect a birth date, an email address, a photograph or any other information about a household member, and household members have no account, no login and no way to sign in.
By adding a household member you confirm you have the authority to do so. If a household member is a child, that means you are their parent or guardian. You can remove a household member at any time, and doing so removes their name from the property.
Photographs, and what happens to them
Photographs you upload are stored privately and are visible only to the people you have given access to. Location data embedded in a photograph by your camera is removed before the file is stored. A phone photograph of a cabin ordinarily carries the cabin's exact coordinates, and we take those out.
If you use the room capture feature, the photograph you take is sent to Anthropic, an artificial intelligence provider, which returns a list of items it believes are in the room together with estimated replacement values. Nothing is added to your inventory without your explicit confirmation. The suggestion is a starting point that you accept, correct or discard.
How we use your information
To provide the service, and for nothing else. Specifically: to show your group the calendar and the records they are entitled to see, to calculate what people owe one another, to generate the reports and the annual insurance report from your own data, to send the emails the service depends on, and to take payment when you subscribe.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising. We do not profile you.
Who else handles your data
We use a small number of service providers. Each of them receives only what it needs.
- Supabase, hosted in Canada. Database, authentication and file storage. Holds essentially all of your data.
- Vercel, hosted in Canada. Application hosting.
- Stripe. Payments. Receives your email address and billing details. Card numbers go directly to Stripe and never reach us.
- SendGrid. Email delivery. Receives your email address and the contents of emails we send you.
- Anthropic. Only when you use room capture, and only the photograph you choose to capture.
Cookies and tracking
We use no analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third party script on this website. The only cookie we set is the one that keeps you signed in.
If that changes we will say so here before it takes effect, not afterwards.
How long we keep things
While your account exists, we keep your records indefinitely. That is deliberate. A shared property accumulates years of financial and maintenance history, and losing it because a subscription lapsed would defeat the purpose of recording it.
If you cancel a paid plan, the features of that plan become unavailable and the records behind them are hidden from view. They are not deleted. They return exactly as they were if you subscribe again.
Deleting your information
You can ask us to delete your account at any time by writing to ron@vissersolutions.com.
What happens next depends on whether other people still use the property, because a shared property's records belong to the group rather than to any one person.
- If other owners remain, we remove your personal details and replace your name with "Previous owner" wherever it appears. The financial and maintenance history stays, because it is also the other owners' record of what was spent and what was done to their property.
- If nobody remains, or the remaining owners ask us to remove the property entirely, all of the property's data is deleted.
We think this is the right balance, and we would rather state it plainly than promise a deletion we cannot honestly perform.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and withdraw consent. Write to the address above and we will respond as quickly as we can.
A full data export is not available yet. It is planned, and until it exists we will provide your information in a readable form on request.
Security
Access is enforced in the database itself rather than by hiding buttons in the interface, using row level security on every table holding customer data. One property's data cannot be reached from another property's session. Property managers cannot see any financial figure at all. Our own administrative accounts are protected with multi-factor authentication.
We describe this more fully on our security page, including what we do not yet have.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and tell account holders by email. Continuing to use Casa Cabana after a change means you accept it.
